NEWS: MARCH 16, 2010: NASCAR OP-ED /// POST TYPOGRAPHY VIDEO

Hey All! Spring weather is finally upon us after one of the worst weekends (weather-wise) in recorded history! 2 bits of news...

Somewhere in that maelstrom (Sunday) i had the below piece in the New York Times Op-Ed section about retaliatory NASCAR wrecks. Not a subject i'm terribly well versed in, but who doesn't relish the chance to draw a bunch of rad cars and corresponding onomatopoeia? Thanks to Gary Fogelson for some how getting those crooked columns and "Bra-Krong" through the editorial gauntlet... Click here or at your left to see the full finished piece in and out of context.

Order of business #2 - Kim Bost and i present the letter T at Post Typography's "Fan Letter" - the launch party for their excellent book Lettering & Type: Creating Letters and Designing Typefaces. Enjoy!

NEWS: FEBRUARY 28, 2010: SECRET INTERNET ZINE

Below, the cover, spreads and poster image for the new fold'em zine, Secret Internet. Hard at work in the studio folding these guys down and working on my contributions to the "Living The Dream" show opening in NYC next month. More to come soon and Cheers!

NEWS: FEBRUARY 22, 2010: PART I: VIDEO SHOW

Hey all - just a quick update - above is my contribution to "Super! Short! Video!", a gallery show of 5 second long clips curated by my old friend John Tymkiw. I've been taking short video snapshots since the start of the year (the quality of the video on my low-mid range digital camera being surprisingly good) so it seemed like a perfectly logical outlet for some of these pieces. The result was a split screen of two super shorts of one of my studio mates "dancing" and the other my good friend Anthony Macbain recording vocals in my studio for his new band The Psyched. You can watch my contribution, "5 Seconds Of 2010" about 4 - 6 times in the amount of time it takes to read this probably unnecessarily long write up. "Super! Short! Video!" opens February 24th at Secret Project Robot, 210 Kent Ave in Brooklyn NY, 8 - 11PM.

PART II: REP

I'm also delighted to announce that i've joined the super talented ladies and lads at The Loud Cloud, and intercontinental gestalt juggernaut of illutstrators and designers.

NEWS: JANUARY 4 2010: HAPPY NEW YEAR KIDS!

Happy 2010 everybody! Lots of new rad stuff on the horizon, including a repurposed blog, new JMBOTRN projects and a new zine... fer now, check out this late game 2009 craziness for Wired Magazine about the rise of Asylum Studios, purveyors of consciously schlocky block buster knock offs... to your left or, right here.

NEWS: NOVEMBER 23 2009: ALL KINDSA NEWSPAPER CRAZINESS

Item I: THE PENCIL FACTORY PRESENTS: 15 USES FOR NEWSPRINT

You may or may not know that i'm lucky enough to work in the company of a super-talented bunch of illustrators and designers spread out over a few studios inside a converted factory in Brooklyn called "The Pencil Factory." Better still, there's also a bunch more of these creative wizards dispersed about the immediate area of the neighborhood who stop by often to hang out, lunch, happy hour etc. Anyhow, it is SUPER RARE given everyone's radically different but typically hectic life beyond the brick and mortar studio walls that any number of us get the chance to work collaboratively or collectively on anything from model rockets to building functional, minimalist scrap material submarines to simple joys like containing the occasionally horrifying storm clouds of scrap paper, debris, broken blunt pencils, empty coffee cups and cans of spray paint that sometimes threaten to move beyond the retaining walls of my studio space and start eating office plants. That is, until now...

Thanks to the organizational acumen of our dear friends Jennifer Daniel and Josh Cochran, The Pencil Factory and friends proudly present:

15 USES FOR NEWSPRINT, our new massive collective newspaper/poster thing, featuring a 21X16" poster by each artist involved. Get a full list of the participants here. If ya'd like one, i have 100 copies for sale in the For Sale section to the left, and the first 25 orders get a free bonus zine.

Item 2: NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW COVER

Last month i had the awesome job of illustrating the cover of The New York Times Book Review for a review of Jonathon Lethem's amazing new book Chronic City. Absolutely one of those corny, fantasy dream jobs where you're commissioned by a client you love for a subject you love and you get to make an image that looks pretty much like something you'd do on your own time anyway. Check out the piece in detail here.
